Thanks Roger, I'll give those a try. What I wonder is how they get past the user-registration requirement.Of course the number of people registered in this blog is under a dozen, so it isn't like I've got a zillion posts to moderate.

As for the email spam, I've already got that covered with Postini. I've been mostly spam-free for several years.

OK. I have the following installed:

Spam Karma:
http://unknowngenius.com/blog/wordpress/spam-karma/

Bad Behavior:
http://error.wordpress.com/2006/02/02/bad-behavior-2-roadmap-update-3/

I see that the latter is in need of an update, but my piddly little blog hasn't seen the next generation of spam. I don't think. Lots of poker ads...bah. I still don't understand spam and when I'm dictator the perpetrators and their families with all be Kaiser Soze-d and anyone who actually responds to spam will be sterilized. Ahem.

On a kinda related note, pair.com started doing something called "grey listing" which hasn't totally eliminated email spam but really cut it way down. If I understand how it works, they bounce every email and when it comes back the second time they let it through. This catches out those who spoof the return routes...I think. Anyway, it works.

I gather the spammers specifically target older posts. I did some anti-spam stuff to my wordpress blog and haven't seen any further entries. Let me know if you want me to figure out what I installed.
