Always impressive to see, in any context, the Porsche 917 commands respect. This Porker was spotted in the paddock of the NW Historics in Kent, WA last summer.
Here is a Mulsanne Straight spectator viewpoint of a passing 917:
If you need more time to appreciate the machine, here’s some more footage courtesy of Mr. Steve McQueen and the movie classic Le Mans:
I went to the Monterey Historics (Pebble Beach Concours and Laguna Seca) 10 or so years ago for the 50th Anniversary of Porsche. Of course the factory sent over some great exhibits, but the most fun were the number of collectors who brought their Porsches, especially including all the 917. And these were not just paddock queens – they raced, and they raced to win.
Of course this was in the days before quality digital photography – I had an Apple QuickTake 150, but my Nikons were far superior. I got a number of good pictures. Will get them scanned* one of these days soon and post them up. And of course not only those, but one of my favorite subjects was car photography very much like yours. When I finally get them posted to the intarwebs I’ll let you know.
