  1. Hehehe…

Though I disagree w/Clarkson, vis-a-vis the Accent, I’ll allow that the one he tested isn’t a 1.6 4-banger, and my experience is such (’04 model, driven like it was stolen, 177,000 miles on the clock, virtually NO mechanical issues) that I will not buy anything ELSE for my next car.

That being said, this is PRICELESS:

“The 350Z, then, feels like a mishmash; like a Japanese car designed by an Indian from Leicester in America and then altered for Europe. Which shouldn’t be a surprise because that’s exactly what it is. And worse, when you’re at a party and someone asks what you’re driving you have to say: “A Datsun with a Renault engine.”

    LOL!!
    😮

  2. He’s not talking about reliability or build quality, he’s talking about something more intangible… “soul”.

I could say the same about my TDI. It is a wonderful car, but it is as soulless as your Hyundai. Reliable? Yes. 150k miles and 50 MPG average fuel economy on stuff I brew up myself in the barn. It does its job very well. The Jetta’s interior was obviously designed by OCD-afflicted engineers who over-thought the position of every knob and handle. It just does not stir anyone’s loins or elicit any desire in any sane human being. Neither does your Accent, sorry.

  3. Totally agree, but, as is usual with Clarkson, he confabulates his disgust with the lack of ‘soul’ of the car with its reliability. In terms of that, my ACCENT beats ANY soulful conveyance.

I don’t give a rat’s patootie about lack of soul in my DD, like you; I WANT a boring appliance! Actually, I really want decent mileage…! C’mon, cool little Yurrupean diesels!

I have the *Jag* for adventure! Daring! Will it leave me by the side of the road!

    😉
