Today’s CPotD is an engine bay shot of a truly landmark car, though this particular example seems to have suffered at the hands of somebody who has spent far too much time, and money, in the JC Whitney catalog. Can you name the car?

It’s a Datsun Z of some flavor, 240 or 260.
Ding Ding Ding. We have a winner. It is a Datsun 240Z, seen at a local car show & shine here in Arlington, WA.

The Z engine does look very much like a TR6 engine (I’ve owned both) The Z has it’s intake on left side of the engine, the TR6 on the right.

Hmmm..I’ve squinted my eyes, tried to forget what each looks like…and ain’t seein’ it! But, that’s the beauty of individual vision, without which M.C. Escher wouldn’t have had much of a career

I was referring primarily to the engine itself. The engine bays are a bit different and of course the surrounding body is too. The Z engine without the bling and a stock airbox to a casual observer looks similar. We know vroomie is no casual observer! 🙂

Hehehe…I ‘wife-proofed” this, given she’s a bona fide casual observer. Showed her upclose engine shots of both and *she* discerned the diff! Guess I’m waaaay too ‘non-casual’ to ever get’em mixed up!

I’ve got one and I have urges to get another but I’m suppressing them for now. My wife wants a Z3 (though I’ve tried to convince her that another TR6 would be nice)
