I’m not a huge fan of the lumbering machines of mid-20th Century Detroit, but this one caught my eye at a show last year. Can you name the car?

Boy, that was fast!

Buick Caballero station wagon, 1957-58.
The old wagons are the coolest of the 1950s cars for sure.
Stylistically, I’d have to agree, droo, but I’ve long wanted to get one of those ‘lumbering tanks,’ drop the suspension/drive train out, modify the undercarriagle to accept modern mechanicals, then drive one!
This is what inspired me: A friend of mine took a ’67 Olds Cutlass ‘Vista Cruiser’ wagon, gutted it, took an old Toronado drive train, plopped it in the back (the really correct way) and called it “Olds Under Glass.” REALLY cool wagon!
Olds under glass… love it!
My neighbors when I was a kid had a lumbering vista cruiser wagon… and a herd of kids to stuff it with!
