Mind you it is a throwaway quote… I talked to the guy for a long time about Diesel technology, the cars I’ve owned, etc. Of all things he picked that one. Oh well.

Now if only they would legislate the necessity of exhaust systems to make domestic diesels quieter. Or perhaps there’s just something inherently flawed in the design of US-made diesel engines that they’re two to three times louder than imported diesels. 🙂
That is mostly engine compartment enclosures that quite the Euro-Diesels. The Jetta I have is completely enclosed in plastic sound deadening panels. They are removed in this shot above.
The Detroit Diesels are loud because it is… um… macho I guess.
