Car/Road Photo of the Day: Blue on Blue (Vanishing Point part 6)

John wishes I would “stop torturing him” with “Vanishing Point” photos. So while the rest of you admire the road we’ll give him first guess at this car in the foreground.

  1. My first reaction was it’s a Nash Healy but it isn’t (unless it’s been re-bodied). I have to say I’m at a loss on this one. Looks quite nice, though…

It has a bit of a “special” look to it but I’m still clueless.

  2. It could be a Ferrari in some special guise. A one off Berlinetta or something. But the back is wrong for all the usual suspects. And those rear light clusters look like they’re off a Packard! I haven’t consulted the person I think you mean but he does own several Ferraris including one from the Mille Miglia era but I have no idea what it is…

  3. That’s who I thought you meant (and I haven’t asked him). I didn’t really think it was a Ferrari but there were so many one off bodies that it’s hard to know. I think my first hunch of Anglo-Amercian hybrid was correct. How about an Allard K3 or the like?

  4. Now I’m sure it’s an Allard K3. And I’ve just learned something interesting. Sydney Allard himself drove an Allard P1 to victory in the 1952 Monte Carlo rally (I should have known that). The car is the absolute dog’s bollocks. See here:

Not only is it Monte Carlo Historique eligible (the ACM will take just about anything as long as the team has the entry fee) but the Mille Miglia and the Carrera Panamericana too. I want one: can anybody lend me £43595…?
