OK, so after all those bonnets we have a mystery car photo that starts with a bonnet view. Do you know this car?
Here’s a hint from the other end of the car in question:

I want to say “Studebaker” but I know it’s wrong. Too early in the morning, I think.
I’m stumped. Need a clue. I can’t get past thinking it’s mid-60s British.
A clue…let me help chuck out here….
The car was in limited production, in the early 60s. The bodies were made on standard sedan chassis.
See if that helps… 🙂
It is not British; its influences were American in origin…!
I was thinking DKW 1000Sp or Sp 1000 or whatever is proper.
DING! DING! DING!
We have a winnah, Houston! Hadja guys going, chuck and I did! That’s my car, awaiting its turn as the center of my next restoration project. Perhaps this year will only see me install its 1000 cc, 2-stroke, three-cylinder engine and make it mobile.
A DKW auto exec, upon seeing a ’55 T-bird, wanted DKW to make their version of it. The factory made ~4500 1000 SPs, based on standard “Sonderklasses” DKW 1000 sedans. They ‘hotted’ up the engine to FIFTY FIVE horesepower from the sedan’s 42..wooHOO! A very few cabrios were made but IMHO, they were not as pretty as the coupe, having “Federalized” (in a manner of speaking, since they were WAY earlier than FMVSS)) rounded-off fins.
And, yes…those tail lights are genuine ‘unobtainium,’ the lenses being cast as a part of the chrome housing. Last time I picked up a spare (over 10 years ago) I paid $250 for it!
Since mine is *far* from decent (and it looks not as nice as chuck dolled it up to be!), here’s a link to a pretty one!

Lotto winnings…my kingdom for lotto winnings…..
Woops….mistyped! It should be a ’57 T-bird,’ not ’55.
You can see the influence, here: http://www.toqinc.org/fords_downunder/57tbird.jpg
