  1. Many of the old VW commercials were really great. My favorite GTI commercial featured the Chuck Berry song “No Particular Place to Go” Haven’t been able to find it online anywhere.

  2. The Guigiaro-designed Rabbit/Golf was truly one of the best things to ever come out of VW: quick, reliable, easy to work on, and economical. I’d still not mind a ’77, which was the optimal year for the Rabbit.

A friend of mine had me do a *pile* of mods to his ’77 Rabbit ($8000 worth, in 1981) and afterwards, we dubbed it “Super Bunny!”

    😀

  3. When the GTI came out it was a great handling, barebones, fun, cheap, fast car. Of course, over time it became overly complex, bloated with features, and expensive. Many similar cars from other manufacturers have followed suit.

    What’s the GTI of 2010?

  4. “What’s the GTI of 2010?”

Hmmm…hard to say, but I’d offer up the Subaru WR-X as close to the idea of the GTI.
