Top Gear Reviews the E-type Jaguar

OK, so I know these are a few years old, but still fun to watch.

Apologies for the lack of updates, work has been keeping me busy day & night of late.

  1. saw DB5 just like that near my work the other day…. looked very good. Had DB5 plate but can’t have been real plate as I couldn’t find it on the rego web site…. must have been a real plate on the rear I didn’t spot… you got uprated suspension and brakes on the Jag then Chuck?

    Jerome

  2. Always good to see that I’m not the *only* one who detests that fcuking truck gearbox….! If only the Moss was as *easy* to stir as a pile of coal: I’ve done both. I’ll take the coal….!

And, though I was under no romantic notion of how badly, ah… -1960s- …the E Type was in its going and handling, last summer I got a reacquaintance with *just* how old the car is, on the track: It was all I could do to keep up with a mildly-hotted up 242 Volvo sedan! As for the Subaru WR-Xs? They lapped me. *Three* times… 🙁

It wasn’t just the rusty old driver of the E, either. I could outrun the Volvo (barely) on the straight bits but on the corners? All I saw was big Scandahoovian taillights. For a half lap, then even they were gone. the XKE is gorgeous, yes, and it commands attention, most certainly but as regards performance? It’s way past its prime.

    :/

  3. Yes Jerome. Suspension is only mildly upgraded. I have adjustable shocks, but they no longer adjust(!) Front brakes are Wilwoods, and the old fronts are now on the rears.
