As you point out, skill helps as does good handling. Despite its impressive straightline speed, that Vette looks like it’s understeering a bit.

Much as a fan of the E Type I am, and much as a fan of ‘Vettes I am *not*, had the ‘Vette driver just taken better lines, the Jag would have *never* seen anything but tail lights. The ‘Vette driver fairly consistently drove incorrect (too early apexing) lines and the Jagger took advantage of those goofs.
A road race is essentially a series of drag races, from corner to corner: if a car has the straight line grunt (Vette does) and can handle the corners better (Vette’s *can*) the grunt will win, EVERY time.
However, not to take anything away from the Jag driver; he drove better lines and snookered the Vette driver, fair and square…great clip!
