Apologies for the lack of updates for the past several days. Life has me spinning at a high RPM, though without being in gear of late. The reasons will hopefully become clear very soon. In the meantime, here’s a few photos for you to ponder. Above is one of those snapshots that you have to take when you stumble upon the scene. Sure the photo isn’t that great, but the subject matter makes for one of those mental “huh” moments…
Carrying on… Here’s a six-pack of car photos to make up for my absence!
1. I have a thing for classic-era hood ornaments, so I never fail to snap one when they come around.
2. I saw this car again today as I was driving to pick up Nicholas from Track practice…
Yes, the propeller spins freely as it drives. No, you get no car-geek cred by naming the car!
3. This car often rallies with us at the Annie & Steve Norman Classic Motorcar Rally, and the father-son team in it is quite competitive.
4. This wheel is not from a “car”, but it is a unique vehicle made by a famous car company.
When the going gets tough, the tough get one of these.
5. This car might be too easy for the top-tier carspotters, but let’s see how it does.
6. Finally, another (early) classic-era hood ornament for you to ponder:
Good luck!
1. Is that a mid-30’s Plymouth pickup truck?
4. It that ‘Ford tough’? (I know I’m supposed to name the ‘car’ but I figured I’d at least try for make.
Otherwise, I’m a rookie on these.
😉
1. Plymouth (the hood ornament is supposed to be the Mayflower)
2. Studebaker
3. Pontiac (1958, IIRC)
4. Hummer H1?
5. Citroen 2CV
6. No clue
The Pontiac is a ’60 and #6 is a Willys-Knight (1926 perhaps)
1. ? but beautiful ornament
2.Studebaker (I still can read)
5.Citroen 2CV indeed
challenging 😉
Yes, #1 is a mid/late 1930s Plymouth, so Jeri, you got one (sort of, it’s a car, not a pickup) 😉
#2 is a Stude, but as I said, no credit gained by this one.
#3 is a 1960 Pontiac. Can you name the model Rog or Tom?
#4 is neither a Ford, nor a Hummer. In fact it is not a domestic make here in the USA.
#5 is NOT a 2CV.
#6… Well Tom you are VERY close, but not quite.
The dashboard of #5 reminds me of a classic Fiat 500, and the roof cut is about right for the cabrio. but I’ve got no idea what all that wood is for, and the speedo looks wrong. Maybe an Abarth or Puch?
Could #6 be a Unimog (Mercedes-Benz) or Volvo C303?
And that would be a 1927 Willys-Knight, then? I wouldn’t have gotten it without help…
Yes, number FOUR is a Unimog.
#3 is a Ventura and #5 is a late-40s Crosley
Bingo! The Crosley (#5) has finally been identified.
The Marque of our Knight in Shining Armor remains unknown…
#3 is a 1960 Pontiac Catalina but I’ll be stuffed as to what the last one is!
This particular Pontiac is always ID’ed at the rally as a “Star Chief”.
As for the *-Knight car do you guys give up yet?
Alright, I’ll go with Star Chief (lower trim level of the HUGE-body Pontiac that year) – didn’t think they came with the fancier taillights.
Further investigation indicates the final one is a 1928 Stearns-Knight.
Stearns-Knight. Working on the year. 🙂
Doh! Good work corvairdad – guess I should read through to the last comment. 😉
