Just for “Mad Dog” who didn’t like the hot-rod Buick posted earlier I present this XJS taken at the same show, “Cruzin to Colby” car show in Everett, WA. BTW it is primarily a hot rod show so don’t go John if seeing Hot Rods gets your knickers knotted! 😉
Anyway, this XJS was parked here to get a pin-stripe job applied, so maybe even this will raise your BP, who knows.
To be honest, I’ve never liked the XJS. They have always appeared to be large and heavy to me. Their shape looks as if they are so heavy that they are drooping earthwards under their own significant mass. Light bends around them as they lumber down the road.
Funny thing, Chuck, but I never liked the XJS much either. And for much the same reasons as you. I’ve never driven one but I’m told they go quite well.
I must join in the dog pile: I think the hardtop XJS is one of THE most gawd-awful tutt-bugly cars ever designed, up there with the Pontiac Aztek!
However, when they took the top off and put a *proper* six banger, in-line engine in it, it transforms into a GREAT looking car!

Vroomie, I agree. The 6cyl XJS drop top with manual transmission is a very decent car. But the coupe looked awful -I could never get along with those flying buttresses. I can remember feeling bitterly disappointed when it was unveiled as the successor to the E type. It was infinitely worse than even a 2+2 series II E. However its a little unfair to compare with a Pontiac Aztek which is in a league of its own with regard to ugliness. It’s probably the worst car in the history of automotive engineering and beats the Austin Princess (a tough act to follow), the Yugo and the Renault Dauphine by a good margin. Furthermore its designers are largely responsible for the lamentable position in which GMC currently finds itself (time for my pills again)…
