No. In fact it did not win the race it was built for, but did set a record which I’m pretty sure stands to this day.

Sheesh! I missed this one while on vacation! I believe it’s Fred Agabashian’s 1952 Indy car; although not the first diesel to do either finish the race or to complete the entire race w/o a pitstop, I believe it was the highest-finishing diesel ever at the Brickyard.
As it said at the end of “Cat’s Cradle,” (beware Chuck –pending homage to Vonnegut!)a quote from the end of the “Book of Bokonen:”
“Everything in this book might be wrong.”
Very Good Wigman… Though I seem to recall that the sign said that it WAS the first Indy car ever to run the 500 miles non-stop.
