Car Photo of the Day

I won’t be watching any anniversary TV specials. To be honest I do not really want to re-live any of that day five years ago. Today I’ll be driving the 65E from Kalispell to Arlington, a distance of ~600 miles. My only notation of the event will be this photo. It was taken in 2003, in Vergennes, Vermont. It was on a Jaguar XJS if I recall corectly. Somehow it wasn’t in its assigned parking spot in 2001 I guess.

I’ll post an update after I arrive home.

What happened to the Conservative idea of smaller government?

Armored personnel carrier puts Germantown in state of readiness – Autoblog

Please tell me again how this represents smaller government? What a complete waste of taxpayer dollars! It seems to me like some boys wanted somebody else to pay for their toys. Unfortunately that somebody else is you and me. The Department of Homeland Security is the biggest waste of federal money ever created. This is bureaucracy that FDR, or even the Soviets, could only dream of!

This on top of “spend and spend” makes me wonder how conservative the current administration really is. They seem to be pretty damn liberal when it comes to spending money of goofy stuff like this.

Car Photo of the Day.

OK, so technically it isn’t a car photo. This is the Seattle Cossacks Motorcycle Stunt Drill Team at an appearance at the Arlington 4th of July parade many years ago. These guys are amazing and this photo does not capture how amazing they really are. They are just beginning their performance in this shot, which much much more to come. I like the photo though for the composition.

If you ever get a chance to see them perform, I highly recommend it. They used to be a fixture in the Arlington 4th of July parade, but I haven’t seen them for a few years. They are appearing this weekend at the Evel Knievel Days in Butte, MT. So if you’re in Butte, go.

Here are some more photos of the Cossacks:

Check out their website for more.

WTF is THAT? (name that car!)

Thanks to Bruce Cox in Burnaby who sent me a set of photos of something even MORE obscure than the BMW 503 (I thought I’d stump you guys with that one :\ )

Unlike the elegant 503, this thing is about as ugly as you can get without going to Soviet Russia. Let’s see if you can guess this one.

If you can’t, I’ll reveal more pictures of it as hints.

Jerome got the answer, so here are the pictures:

Makes me wanna barf.

Oh my… Aston on Blocks

I don’t know whether to laugh, cry, or shout.

I received these photos from reader (and frequent commenter) Jerome Lumley in New Zealand this evening. Apparently this happened in Auckland. he included this quote:

Somewhere in Auckland there’s a 1976 Cortina Station Wagon with a vinyl roof, louvres and a Supercheap Autos 5 speed gear knob driving around with 21″ wheels worth around $40k!

You do have to give it to the theives how they left the car in such a minimal state, balanced on merely two cinder blocks. But it does beg the question… where’s your garage and why wasn’t the car parked in it Mr. Aston-Moron?

Here we go again.

Roger says “Actually, a photo of just about any late model German or Japanese car will stump me.” OK, so it doesn’t qualify as “late model” but there’s no doubt as to it’s origin! Hai!

To be honest, I don’t remember what it is. So after I go eat some sushi for lunch (Nigiri Lunch Combo, a Bomb Tuna Roll, and a Blazing Godzilla please… oh yeah, and a large Kirin Ichi Ban.) I’ll look up my notes from when this photo was taken. I remember the marque (and it is even somewhat readable on the sign) but the exact model escapes me.

Guess the make/model/year, and maybe I’ll buy you sushi. 🙂
